Runwell Hospital Football Club is the oldest section of the RHSSC, in existence for over 60 years! It was formed in 1946 by two members of staff “Bert Bone” and “Sid Burrell”. A photograph of the team in 1948 hangs in the Football club and family members from that team are playing and involved in the club today!
Sid’s son, Alistair, is the present Bar Steward and Bill Phillips' grandson, Jamie Went, plays in goal for our 1st Team.
We have first class facilities available to us. Our main pitch is of international size (100m x 68m) and one of the best, if the the best in the area, roped off and complete with our changing facilities up to intermediate grade A standard. Our grounds man won the prestigious ‘Essex County Grounds man’ award recently. We have had the honour of being repeatedly asked to host the Essex County FA Chartered clubs 11-
Our 1st and 2nd teams play in the Essex Olympian League and our 3rd team in the Mid Essex League.
We have a veteran side that formed in season 2005/2006 and play in the ‘Green Kings’ Veteran League on Saturday mornings and an Under 18’s side that play in the Chelmsford Youth League on Sunday mornings.

Ladies
We have a girls under 14 side that play in the Essex County Girls League and we are very proud of our Ladies Football Team here at Runwell Hospital .
This team has really grown and now has a substantial squad of players.
Runwell Hospital Ladies football club was formed in 2006 and has achieved in developing a large squad of all ages from 15+. Runwell Ladies are keen to promote ladies football in Essex, so if you enjoy playing football or would like to keep fit, or would just like to find out more about the game, come along to one of our training sessions and meet the squad.
We train on Wednesdays at 19.30 hrs at Runwell Sports and Social club.
We have a very strong committee and are always looking for new members who are interested in being part of a very well run, ambitious club, looking to provide the best possible facilities in the area, culminating in success.
