Runwell Hospital Football Club

Mens

Runwell Hospital Football club is the oldest section of RHSSC, celebrating our 60 th Birthday this year after being formed in 1946 by two members of staff, Bert Bone and Sid Burrell. A photograph of the team in 1948 hangs in the Football Club and family members from that team are playing, and involved, in the club today. Sid's son, Alistair, is the present Bar steward, and Bill Philips grandson, Jamie Went, plays in goal for our 1 st Team.

We have first class facilities available to us. Our main pitch is of international size (100m x 68m) and one of the best, if not the best in the area, roped off and complete with our changing facilities up to intermediate grade A standard. Our Groundsman won the prestigious Essex County Grounds man award recently. We have had the Honour of being asked to host the Essex County FA Chartered clubs 11 - a - side summer tournaments over the last three years.

At present our 1 st and 2 nd teams play in the Essex Olympian League, and our 3rds in the Mid Essex League. We have a Veterans side that formed in season 2005/2006 and play in the Green Kings veterans league on Saturday mornings and an Under 18's side that play in the Chelmsford Youth League on Sunday mornings. The youth policy is a very important part of the club and we shall be looking to increase our youth teams and mini-soccer again next season 2006/2007.
