About Runwell Sports Club
Runwell Hospital Staff Social Club has been in existence for over fifty years. It started as a sporting facility for the staff and patients of the hospital. The key sports in those early days were football, cricket and tennis. Such was the quality of playing surfaces and facilities that by the sixties, local sportsmen were making endeavours to be involved in the sporting activities of the hospital. New sports were introduced, bowls, archery and more recently rugby. As mentioned below the clubhouse has grown significantly introducing over the years sports such as snooker, pool, darts and other leisure activities. During the last forty years more and more sportsmen/women have joined the club and with the gradual demise of the hospital the membership has seen a transition from nearly all hospital staff to that of a very high percentage of local community. Currently club membership stands at over six hundred people. The club is unique in the many and varied sports activities it provides. It is a membership club open to men, women and children. The club promotes youth in sport with young members already involved with football, rugby and archery.
The clubs current playing facilities include 4 football pitches, a cricket square and outfield, a rugby pitch, a bowling green and an archery range. Supporting these activities is a well equipped clubhouse with changing rooms and leisure facilities.
The Sports Club is a non profit making limited Liability Company, trading under the name of "The Runwell Sports Association". It occupies an area if approximately ten-and-a-half acres of recreational land which encompasses outdoor sports.
